Bringing Up Podcasts' Profile

Podcasts are still basically in their infancy, but their potential is significant. (Check out this sorta-love letter sorta-rant about podcasting and podcast listeners from Computerworld's Mike Elgan.)

But podcasts now have a new champion in the free-wheeling, foul-mouthed, and quick-witted Adam Carolla. Though I've never really related to Carolla's particular brand of humor, he's a smart guy and has a wide reach. Now that he's off of his radio show and focusing on podcasting, he may bring new visibility to the medium.

In his first podcast, he had a few words to say about the current inane state of most of the stuff that's on radio today (scroll down for the text)—and he finishes up by suggesting that maybe podcasts can help ramp up the quality and diversity of what people are listening to on a day-to-day basis.

And to that, I say, hurray.
